Draw the Opponent 3-on-1

Purpose
When an opponent must cover two players, they must choose to continue allowing to ball carrier to progress, covering the next probable recipient, or commit to tackling the player with the ball. Players must learn to draw the opponent, the give to a free player.

  • Step 1

    The middle player in Line (A) starts with ball, running towards the opposition player (B) who is 10m away

  • Step 2

    When (A) has drawn the opponent, they fire a handball sideways to a teammate
    Player must look at their teammate when handballing, not the opponent

  • Step 3

    Once Line (A) is past (B), they handball to middle player in Line (D)

  • Step 4

    Line (D) then repeat the process, with (C) defending them

  • Step 5

    To increase difficulty, (B) and (C) defend against both lines, increase the length of the drill if you choose this option
