  • Setup

Mark a 50x50m square with cones (or use the centre square). Five yellow attackers (including the ruckman) start in the centre, as do four red opposition players. One or two pairs of forward & defender start 70m away. Other players line up at cones waiting to become attackers.
  • Step 1

The coach throws the ball up (or can simulate a throw-in), and ruckman compete as per a game situation. Prior to the tap, the free player (A) sprints towards the intended hit zone, screaming at the ruckman throughout
Examples "Back door!", "Left!", "Right!", "Straight down!"
The call must be early, loud and persistant. Calling the ruckman's name repeated allows the ruckman to track the path of their follower without seeing them.
  • Step 2

The ruckman must then, at all costs, attempt to tap or force the ball towards the hit zone to which player (A) has occupied.
  • Step 3

    (B) should shield their opponent from (A)'s path
If the ruck tap doesn't go as planned, (A) becomes an outside receiver and continues to voice their position
  • Step 4

If yellow gain possession, they should use quick hands to release a player who then kicks to a leading forward.
If red win win the clearance or a scrimmage occurs, restart with the same players (only do this once, then rotate players).
You may have the same forward and defender leading each time, or rotate with another pair.
  • Step 5

After a yellow clearance or 2nd scrimmage/win by red, rotate the 4 yellow attackers (not the ruckman). Rotate the rucks and defenders after several contests.
