Kick to a Lead or Goal

Purpose
When a player with the ball is within range of goal, they sometimes need to decide whether to pass or take a shot. This drill teaches players to take the shot if they are within a comfortable distance and angle, otherwise find a leading forward.

  • Step 1

    (A) simulates a long kick-in to (B), who is leading towards (C)

  • Step 2

    (B) marks and runs across the face of goal, before steadying and kicking long to (C), who is running towards goal

  • Step 3

    Depending on the quality of the kick from (B), (C) can either kick at goal, or kick short to a leading (D)
    If the kick is perfectly weighted to mark or run onto, kick at goal, otherwise look to pass
    Regardless of whether (D) is used, they should join station (A)
